willow1872 just posted his 6 month review of HostGator. willow came from a lesser known web host that could not deal with problems (e.g. DDOS attacks) and found a new home at HostGator. So far the hosting has been down 4 minutes in the last 6 months and the speed and response time of the website have been great. willow has reseller accounts at both HostGator and VidaHost and is pleased with the service at both of them.
Uptime with Hostgator has been fantastic with only 4 minutes of downtime in the last 6 months which i think is pretty incredible. Server seems fast, FTP is good and no problems with email access. I have only had to use Support twice but sadly that is their only let down, not because it was bad but rather because both issues were fairly small but went through 5-6 reps before being sorted.
You might ask why i didnt go straight to Hostgator when i left H9. The reason being was availability. Simply i like my own websites to be on a different server to that of my clients, that way should their websites go down then they can still reach my websites for support.

brc_csf was looking for a web host that provided powerful dedicated servers for those on a budget. Because brc_csf does not need much support all he needed was a server up and running, he thought it would be a good match.
After signing up though, there were multiple delays and not much communication coming from SharkTech’s support team. After deciding that the host was not going to work out brc_csf tried to get a refund of the money, but was rejected.
12 hours later we were still at the queue. At this point we started some google searchs wondering if we whould go on and found some bad reviews. We thougth about all those issues (not receving replies to our previous e-mails, server being setup incorretly, hardware problems) and decided for cancellation and asking for money refund, which in my opinion seems fair, as they have not honored the 48h and the server has not been used yet. It even does not work. Also, we would not host our business with a company that silently ignore their clients. My stomach hurts when thinking about having a server down without replies.
The request was forwarded to sales which told us: “WE DON’T WORK WITH REFUND”.
We have lost US$373, have a server that does not work (reinstall STILL did not take place, hardware replacement either - More than 24 hours later).

NeoRaven was running a small forum on Lunarpages’ Windows shared hosting environment and was not pleased with the service. Neo specifically did not enjoy the slow FTP access which seemed to time out if the files were bigger than 1 Megabyte. He was with them for a little over a year, so I’m guessing that these problems are recent, even though he didn’t mention a specific time frame. Has anyone else had any experience with the Windows service at Lunarpages? IMO, if you want Windows hosting you should be willing to pay more than a comparable Linux account, as there is no way that a company can provide the same service when Microsoft charges so much for server software (i.e. thousands and thousands of dollars per server).
# Control Panel backup options:
Backup feature locks up. It will lock your entire domain (as you are told), but the page will display a message indicating completion when in fact it wasn’t. The backup does still run, but it takes 3 hours to back up a set of vBulletin files and its database.
Using any other form of backup feature (vBulletin’s, both download and file backup, or phpMyAdmin) fails because the pages take 15 minutes (!) to load only to produce a file that contains php timeout errors.
# Support:
Equal to worthless. Their FAQ either does not solve the problem the Q presents, or it does not contain the proper information. Takes a full day or more to get an answer on a support ticket, only to find they didn’t actually read your ticket and just paste some standard RTFM reply.

Nick recently went with expedio-servers because he wanted high availability for his websites. The company expedio-servers purports that its service will have 99.999% uptime, because their minimum hosting package is 2 AMD servers in a cluster. If one server fails the other server picks up the slack without missing a beat. This is definitely a hosting service that I would enjoy seeing enter the mainstream and hopefully have some competition to bring prices down.
*Uptime:
Since this is cluster configuration, uptime is awesome. I tried rebooting a server, turned it off by “poweroff”, stopped network service, yet sites run happily from other servers without any noticable delay for failover. I saw on the site that you get 99.999% uptime no matter what happens to the server. Gonna try to crash the hdd using fdisk and see if the server still runs. Any other testing ideas are welcome
I was able to verify that all data is sync’ed properly across the servers despite the reboots and poweroffs. I used md5sum to verify data integrity for a raw file of 150MB. Results were good, and md5sum matched on both servers. So the data mirroring is real-time as advertised.

Eric was developing a Ruby on Rails site for a school project and needed a place to test out his scripts and found what seemed like the place at RailsPlayground.com (I hope they didn’t mind him using their server as a development environment )
After 3 months all is well and Eric is still with them. If you’re looking for a Ruby specific environment, this is the place to go apparently.
On the one or two times I’ve emailed support (questions, not problems) I received responses very quickly, minutes not hours. I also like that they have a wiki and a forum for helping you set up various common features and without that I would have been lost…especially with setting up multiple rails apps.
Anyway, I would definitely give this host two thumbs up, they have been nothing but great to me and I will continue to use them. I use them for ruby on rails and php sites and everything works great.

BrandMan211 recently purchased a dedicated server from JustEdge.net and after getting past a little slow start, he was blown away by how hands on the owner was. BrandMan had every single one of his cPanel accounts transferred to his new dedicated box by the owner, at no charge. This was BrandMan211’s 1 month review.
Support - 10/10 (If I could, I would rate it far more)
JustEdge provides the best support I have ever seen! Gregg is the kindest person you could ever meet. He’s always there to help me out or give some advice. He provides IM support, but you could always send tickets or call the data center for help. His support team are also very friendly and helpful, although I always wished they provided AIM support instead of just having Gregg deal with all my nonsense. He’s so great that I feel guilty wasting is time with my stupid questions. The one thing I must admit is it does take him a bit of time to respond on AIM, but can you blame him

Webbrain had the the misfortune of having to experience a DDOS attack first hand. A DDos attack is when a number of computers make frequent connections to a web server in hopes of slowing it down and finally crashing it. Lucky for Webbrain his host was on top of the problem and migrated his account to a new server when they realized the attack would not stop.
The Micfo support staff had us migrated to a new server that afternoon and we have experienced no interruption of service since then.
When we were on our previous host, I was lucky to get a response, much less immediate service. So as far as my experience goes - Kudos to Micfo and the support staff.

alltaken provides a sparse review of Synhosting, stating that the uptime has been great, without a single outage. Also, he must have had a really bad previous host because he seemed surprised that he hadn’t lost any data from his MySQL database. I’d hope that wouldn’t be a problem!
More than 8 months I did not notice that my site was down even single time!
Also MYSQL databases, never lost a single data.

Alexro did not enjoy his stay Citrexhosting and ultimately left for greener pastures in 2007. The problems that he encountered ranged from support tickets that were left open (35 at the time of him moving) and problems with the site becoming unreachable.
He did enjoy the free month of hosting that was refunded to him due to a major outage, but it was not enough to keep him on their servers.
I signed up with Cirtexhosting in October 2006. I had the Economy plan, with 20 Gb disk space and 1.000 Gb monthly bandwidth for 9,99$ every month.
I was put on server Baby. I encountered a lot of problems since signup and until I left. Server stability was always the source of problems. If you browse a website hosted on that server you will see that very often you receive Connection timed up error.

Phil wrote a short novel about his experience with Servage.net’s shared hosting environment. He really liked the price and redundancy offered with servage.net, but didn’t enjoy the service or the lack of some basics features like FrontPage extension support and SSH.
Sounds like if you have a very specific set of requirements (high uptime and little support) servage.net might be the right fit for you.
Summary
Pros: Lots of features for a reasonable price, including unusual ones like clustered (redundant) servers and storage for offsite backups. No silly limits. Simple and effective anti-spam system and webmail.
Cons: Poor support, sloppy maintenance, no secure shell, no backups, no FrontPage server extensions, no log files, difficult migration.
