willow1872 just posted his 6 month review of HostGator. willow came from a lesser known web host that could not deal with problems (e.g. DDOS attacks) and found a new home at HostGator. So far the hosting has been down 4 minutes in the last 6 months and the speed and response time of the website have been great. willow has reseller accounts at both HostGator and VidaHost and is pleased with the service at both of them.
Uptime with Hostgator has been fantastic with only 4 minutes of downtime in the last 6 months which i think is pretty incredible. Server seems fast, FTP is good and no problems with email access. I have only had to use Support twice but sadly that is their only let down, not because it was bad but rather because both issues were fairly small but went through 5-6 reps before being sorted.
You might ask why i didnt go straight to Hostgator when i left H9. The reason being was availability. Simply i like my own websites to be on a different server to that of my clients, that way should their websites go down then they can still reach my websites for support.

Badmovies posted his exiting remarks regarding to HostGator’s semi-dedicated servers. Apparently he’s been hosting with their Personal/Reseller plans for a quite some time and this was a recent upgrade. However, due to some site access issues, Badmovies decided to move on.
I used Hostgator for a few years (believe it was a little less than three) and just moved hosts recently. For the first part of my time with them I was on a dedicated server. It ran very well, I kept it updated, and the few times I needed support they were quick and often solved the problem within 15-30 minutes. Since December of 2005 I was on their semi-dedicated plan. Again, the server usually responded well and support was always good. Around October of 2006 I started noticing performance issues, with the CPU going up to 3 or 4.

Sounds like common problems that I’ve heard from a lot of people sharing a dedicated server. Your site may be crystal clear, but the other people being hosted might not be as pure

Siropel has been with HostGator twice. Once in the past, then left when he needed more resources and purchased a dedicated server elsewhere. However, starting a new site Siropel decided to try out HostGator again and has had pleasant results thus far.
Speed: excellent at all times, example: 19 queries. 0.123 seconds
Uptime: excellent, I don’t think I had more than 8 minutes of downtime totaled for this month and the other. The server wasn’t down, the only service that was offline then was Apache (down for upgrade as I understand).
Server load: mostly under 0.75 but it’s a dual xeon.
Support: Always online via livechat, your problems always get answered and resolved in a timely manner (less than 1 hour). In the past, the server where I was got in a spam blacklist and I emailed HG support, in less than 24 hours the server was removed from the blacklist. This can happen to anyone. I had no other issues.
Domain? Oradeanul.com (somehow popular Romanian blog)
Would I recommend them? Yes, they are in my toplist.

With the announcement of the iPhone, treoguy’s iPhone website was slammed by hundreds of thousands of curious visitors. Unfortunately, he was on a shared account at HostGator and was using almost 100% of the server’s resources, so HostGator was forced to suspend his account. In the end treoguy decided he probably shouldn’t be hosting such a large traffic site on the cheapest plan at HostGator, so he upgraded to semi-dedicated and is now up and running smoothly.
I wanted to provide some further feedback on a situation I had with my site and with HostGator. I had been with Hostgator for about 5 months or so with their Baby Croc plan. Really, it was a low-cost option and I had zero problems. No downtime or anything. On Tuesday, Apple introduced the iPhone. Well, my site Everything iPhone experienced a massive surge of traffic causing the site to go down. Additionally, every site on the shared server went down. While I don’t agree with the message depicted when a visitor hit the site (contact billing), the company did help me resolve the issue. I spoke with Brent at Hostgator who walked me through what had happened, what’s happening at the moment and what we can do to resolve. In the end, we moved the site to their Pro Dedicated server. Over the course of a few hours, the site went from a Baby Croc shared server to their Pro Dedicated. Later that evening, I was back up and running thanks to the folks at Hostgator. I’m really impressed by the way they stepped up and took care of me. This was a unique case of a site that had roughly 2k unique visitors per day on a good day to getting blasted with traffic.
The site is humming along nicely and it’s much appreciated. My faith in Hostgator has been restored!

tcolling has been with HostGator for about a two months and has recently updated his HostGator experiences thread. Initially he had a small billing issue because he signed up for the wrong plan. That has been cleared up and his web site’s users have been commenting on how much quicker his website is running than on the previous Host Page-Zone.
Followup - It’s been almost four months since we transferred our domains to HostGator away from Page-Zone. So far, we’re fine. Service has been uninterrupted (as far as I know) and the servers’ response time seems to be very fast. I’m glad we made the change.
