NeoRaven was running a small forum on Lunarpages’ Windows shared hosting environment and was not pleased with the service. Neo specifically did not enjoy the slow FTP access which seemed to time out if the files were bigger than 1 Megabyte. He was with them for a little over a year, so I’m guessing that these problems are recent, even though he didn’t mention a specific time frame. Has anyone else had any experience with the Windows service at Lunarpages? IMO, if you want Windows hosting you should be willing to pay more than a comparable Linux account, as there is no way that a company can provide the same service when Microsoft charges so much for server software (i.e. thousands and thousands of dollars per server).
# Control Panel backup options:
Backup feature locks up. It will lock your entire domain (as you are told), but the page will display a message indicating completion when in fact it wasn’t. The backup does still run, but it takes 3 hours to back up a set of vBulletin files and its database.
Using any other form of backup feature (vBulletin’s, both download and file backup, or phpMyAdmin) fails because the pages take 15 minutes (!) to load only to produce a file that contains php timeout errors.
# Support:
Equal to worthless. Their FAQ either does not solve the problem the Q presents, or it does not contain the proper information. Takes a full day or more to get an answer on a support ticket, only to find they didn’t actually read your ticket and just paste some standard RTFM reply.

Dave-dave posted a quick review of Go Daddy, mostly talking about how great the cancellation process was (Maybe they should try to work on making some of the other parts of their business just as great…) However, Dave-dave went through the phone support, instead of trying to cancel over the internet, so if you want to cancel quickly with Go Daddy, consider calling their hotline and getting it over with quick.
Cancellation: Cancellation was handled very professionally. They refunded my Domain name (under 5 days old), my privacy on the domain name (6.99, I think that was a rip off for Godaddy to add their name to the whois database), and 3 months of hosting. The total was $25.97 and every penny was refunded in less than 15 minutes (6 minutes of hold time, 2 minutes navigating the automated system). I received a confirmation of my refund shortly after I hung up the phone. And they did not argue with me leaving or try to keep me.

nothingleft had a bad experience with Bluehost, specifically with the host’s performance and reliability.
I switched to Bluehost last year, after a few years at Readyhosting.
Bluehost was great, fast site, lots of features and quick customer service….
Recently Bluehost has developed some issues. They installed a new piece of hardware, I don’t remember what it was, but that’s when the problems began. I am only going to speak from my own experience. Soon after that, my website started getting really slow(about 25% of the time). I started looking around, others seemed to be having problems as well, but it seems Bluehost always had a public solution for them…You need to buy more CPU was the common one.
